Studies and Reports of The National Institute on Drug Abuse

In this paper I will be discussing five major issues the Nation Drug Abuse institute looked at and had many different groups if people doing surveys. This institute collected all the data through out the years and does graphs and reports the statistics of their findings. I will be discussing the trend with high school students and the drugs most of teens do. Also I will be talking about the nation trend, that most is common and comparing it to other years. And then I will discuss the number of hospital visit amongst people who go see the doctor for related to illicit drugs. And then will talk about the future surveys and what the NIDA predicts what will happen in the future. Also what the NIDA found that was reported by the work place†¦show more content†¦Also this institute also looked at what is the most common drug as of today and the research and surveys show that it is marijuana 67%, and the second highest one would be pain relievers 14%. And the most least and lowest u se of illict drugs todays would be heroin 0.1% (NIDA, 2). They also did a survey to see what exact age drug use was common and it revealed that between 18-20 was the highest, compared to ages 12 through 65 plus. Although the use of drugs in high, the use of alcohol has declined just like it did amongst high school students. Now I will discuss the hospital visits due to drug overdose and related problems the hospital department has stated, given to the NIDA. The number of drug problems that result in hospital problems that the doctors see is quit high in the information given to the NIDA, the hospital department said that in 2004 it was around two million, but increased by half in 2009 to around four million. Hospitals have stated that in 2009 they saw patients with cocaine related problems 422,896 hospital visits and the second highest was the related issues with marijuana hospital visits. Also the NIDA got information that these numbers of people going to hospital with drug related problems where high in males then in females. Although the use of marijuana was high, the institute looked at the use of non-medical use of medicines like sedatives and hydrocodone.
